This article is for any member of the University of Oxford who needs information about accessing University Networks, including the eduroam Wi-Fi network. Colleges and departments may offer additional network connections.



Type of Connection Name Details
WiFi (Staff or Student) Eduroam Username: Your SSO@OX.AC.UK

e.g. abcd1234@OX.AC.UK

Password: As set on the Remote Access page of the Self Registration pages

If your SSO expires, your remote access account is removed, you will need to choose the create account option instead of the reset password option.

Further help is available below in "eduroam additional information" 
WiFi (Visitor) OWL (Oxford Wireless Lan) Access to the OWL network can normally be arranged by a department's reception, but check your local college or department's policy.

OWL is designed for guest access, not for University members. Access details are temporary and can last up to 14 days.

You may need to wait 10 minutes in between the OWL account being created and the credentials working in the capture portal.

Wired connection
Your local IT team can provide guidance for this. Remember that connecting to the  wired network is subject to the departmental IT policy. In many cases it requires registration and is for University owned devices only.

Normally IT will require validation the computer is up-to-date and secure, details including the asset tag and MAC address, and the room number and port number. Please check your local IT policy for more information.

Why has my eduroam stopped working? If your University Card has expired your eduroam will stop working. Please check the expiry date in the bottom left of your card or on the University Self-Registration pages, then talk to the relevant Administration or HR team. When your University Card is renewed, you must set up your eduroam credentials as if a new user.

If your university card is in date and the problem persists, you should be in touch with your local IT team. Alternatively, you can report an issue on the customer portal. Please note that if your support team is not currently using FreshService you will be redirected.
